5 Healthy Appetizers

  1. Shots. Not the boozy kind. Fill shot glasses or small glasses with bite size treats. Celery & Shrimp w/cocktail sauce, Gazpacho with small cucumber slices and grape tomatoes on toothpicks in the glass, or Pineapple Salsa with small chunks of chicken on toothpicks.
  2. Chutney. A flavorful jam of sorts that can be spooned over warmed goat cheese or brie and served with whole-grain crackers or crusty bread. Recipe: Cranberry Chutney, and Spicy Apple & Pear Chutney.
  3. Mushrooms. A perfect fall vegetable that provides a warm, earthy flavor to dishes. Make Mushroom Bruschetta, Wilted Spinach Salad, and Turkey Veggie Burgers (serve as sliders).
  4. Kabobs. An easy appetizer that is fun and always look pretty. Try different combinations. Serve up an antipasto kabob, fruit and/or veggie kabobs with or without meat, or dessert kabobs with strawberries and pieces of shortcake. Yum!
  5. Mini-Morsel Sweets. Life’s short, eat dessert first! Pass out sample size portions of desserts as appetizers. Everyone will love the idea and your guests won’t fill up before the big meal. Try Golden Pumpkin Pie bites, small chunks of granny smith apple dipped in caramel on a toothpick, Fruit Cocktail Crisp, or Kiwi-Grape Kebobs on toothpicks.

5 Healthy Beverages

  1. Juice. A sweet & refreshing burst of flavor to enjoy any time of year. Make sure to serve up 100% juice or 100% juice blends.
  2. Apple Smoothie. Make a tasty smoothie to ring in fall. Recipe: Apple Smoothie.
  3. Citrus Punch. Every good party has good punch! Recipe: Citrus Punch.
  4. Water. As the weather gets colder, it gets dryer. Keep your body and skin hydrated with water. For a party add frozen fruit, cucumber or lemon slices.
  5. Summer Breeze Smoothie. Hang on to summer with this taste of the tropics. Recipe: Summer Breeze Smoothie
