"5-A-Day" was the program that preceded Fruits & Veggies — More Matters. Its purpose was to promote the consumption of fruits and vegetables by making the public aware that at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables were recommended a day. However, based on emerging science about the health benefits of fruit and vegetable consumption, these recommendations have increased, and now range from 4-13 servings per day or 2 to 6 ½ cups, depending on age and activity level. Fruits & Veggies — More Matters is the next generation program to promote consumption of fruits and vegetables, and provides actionable steps to meet individual recommendations by including ‘more’ fruits and veggies at meals and snacks.
