Should starchy vegetables and fruit be limited when managing or losing weight?

Answer

Consuming enough fruits and vegetables to meet the daily recommendation is important to get all the nutrients our bodies need.  Starchy vegetables and fruit such as cassava root, plantains, potatoes, etc, are usually higher in calories than non-starchy varieties like cucumbers or lettuce, which have higher water content and fewer calories. That said, starchy vegetables provide great nutrition and fiber, are lower in calories than many other foods, and contain no fat (unless fat had been added during cooking).  About The Buzz: Fruits and Vegetables May Help Manage Weight
