Does ice water make you gain weight?

Answer

No. In fact, ice water can help you lose weight. Not only is ice water a calorie free beverage, but your body will actually burn calories to heat it up to body temperature (98.60 F), although it is a very insignificant amount of calories burned. Our bodies require about eight plus cups of water every day depending on body size, age, sex and activity levels. Water is a great alternative to sugar containing beverages such as soda, sweetened teas or flavored coffee drinks which provide ‘empty’ calories – meaning calories that provide no vitamins or minerals. Excess calories can cause undesirable weight gain.

Not up to drinking plain water? Don’t fret. Fruits and vegetables can count towards your daily intake of fluids because they are comprised mostly of water. If plain water is not for you, try flavoring it with a slice of fresh lemon or a splash of 100% fruit juice. This can help to increase your daily fluid intake and enhance the nutritional value of water.
