Water is always a great way to start a day. If he enjoys warm beverages, unsweetened teas would be a good choice too. If he must have sweetened tea, using a non-caloric, sugar-free sweetener is a good substitute to sugar. Fruit and vegetable juices can be added into diabetic diets as long as the carbohydrates are counted appropriately. Work with a local dietitian or certified diabetes educator to find beverages and an overall meal plan that will work for him.
