What fruits and vegetables are safe for a person on statin drugs who has type 2 diabetes?

Answer

All fruits and vegetables can fit into a meal plan for diabetics.  Starchy vegetables such as potatoes, peas, and fruits may need to be considered for their carbohydrate content.  Also, canned fruits that are packed in syrup and sweetened frozen fruits will have more carbohydrate from the sugar.  Unsweetened frozen fruits and canned fruits packed in juice or water are usually better choices for diabetes diet. I suggest you discuss meal planning with a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Certified Diabetes Educator who can help you with food selection to manage your blood sugar.  Find An RDN In Your Area
People who take statin medications are usually advised not to eat or drink grapefruit or grapefruit-type products. Pummelos have a similar profile to grapefruit and also should be avoided. Check with your doctor or pharmacist for further guidance.
