Juice Comes From A Vine Too?

The fruit juice you drink, or use as an ingredient in your favorite recipes, literally starts from the ground up. DYK farmers must cut 90% of the vine growth to make sure their plants produce the ideal quantity and quality of fruit possible?

Welch’s

Welch’s farmers bring generations of skill and passion to their trade, making them the heart of the company and proving it’s more than a business – it is a legacy.

Welch’s is owned by a co-op of over 750 small family farmers with 100% of the profits returned to them.

Welch’s Concord grapes are harvested in the fall. There’s a short window of time farmers have to properly harvest the Concord grapes before challenging weather and frost set in.

During the winter, the vines are hand pruned. Farmers must cut 90% of the vine growth to make sure the plants produce the ideal quantity and quality of fruit possible. A 30-acre vineyard can take an entire winter to prune, so it’s truly a year-round job.

Welch’s Concord grapes thrive in very specific conditions: they are grown along the 42nd parallel in Michigan, Washington, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Upstate New York.

Once harvested, Welch’s Concord grapes are pressed within eight hours, the short harvest season makes this an intense process that runs 24/7.
