i am a diabetic- and i love fruits and veggies. i could live on fruits and veggies alone. my question is-how much fruits & veggies r too much and what is safe?

Fruits and veggies are an important part of a meal plan for managing diabetes. However, they do contain carbohydrate in the form of sugar in fruits and starch in vegetables. They are also high in fiber, which helps to delay absorption of sugar.
Depending on medications you may be taking, the total carbohydrate at each meal may need to be considered, and that would include what is in fruits and vegetables. I would suggest you speak with a registered dietitian or certified diabetes educator about meal planning for diabetes. You can find a dietitian at www.eatright.org. See what the recommendations for intake are at “How many cups do you need?” in our Meal Planning section. Fruits and vegetables should be part of a well-balanced diet.
