These caramel apple dippers are a healthier twist on the classic fall staple. Slices of apple are dipped into a homemade, naturally sweetened caramel sauce and then into toppings of your choice. Great for fall celebrations and parties!

While I love caramel dip, I dislike the excess sugar that often accompanies it. I’ve been making this version for years and it’s always a hit. The combination of real maple syrup (the artificially flavored kind won’t work), peanut butter and vanilla thickens to create a luscious caramel sauce that’s perfect for crunchy apple slices.

Place the maple syrup in small pot and cook over low heat until the mixture reaches a simmer. As it cooks, it will reduce and thicken. Turn off heat and add in the remaining ingredients. This dip will continue to thicken as it cools, so add in a bit of maple syrup as needed to thin. You’ll want to eat the coated apples right away, but excess dip will keep in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Caramel Apple Dippers Recipe

Ingredients

  • ½ cup real maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons peanut butter
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 5 apples, sliced
  • Toppings of choice: chopped peanuts, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, sprinkles

Directions
In a small pot, bring the maple syrup to a boil over medium heat. Keep a watchful eye on the syrup, stirring often, and continue boiling for 5-6 minutes until reduced and thick. If the syrup starts to boil over, reduce heat to low.

Whisk in the peanut butter, vanilla extract, salt and cinnamon to the pot of maple syrup. Whisk until well blended. Let cool slightly.

Dip apple slices into caramel and then into toppings. Let harden and enjoy!
