A blackberry grilled cheese is the perfect combination of flavors any time of year.  It’s comfort food that has a grown-up twist.

Why Add Blackberries to a Grilled Cheese

Blackberries pair well with cheese.  You might find blackberries on a charcuterie board as a nice complimentary flavor to a variety of cheeses.  However, you can certainly add your own twist to this recipe by making blueberry grilled cheese or raspberry grilled cheese instead.  There is room for all of the flavors, so feel free to change up the fruit in the grilled cheese.  Adding any fruit to grilled cheese adds fiber, nutrition, and flavor to one of your favorite comfort foods.

Types of Cheese for a Blackberry Grilled Cheese

For this recipe we are making blackberry brie grilled cheese.  Alternatively, goat cheese or mozzarella cheese are also a nice pairing with blackberries for this type of hot sandwich.  Making a blackberry cream cheese mixture to go on a grilled cheese is also a unique twist to this familiar comfort food.

Bread for the Grilled Cheese

The best bread to use is whatever you have on hand.  However, if you want to make a hearty sandwich, using whole grain seeded bread makes a nice filling sandwich.  In fact, you might even want to share it with a family member along with a bowl of tomato soup.
